2011 Grand Marshals

Karla Lehmann - MPD

Officer Karla Lehmann has over twenty years with the Milwaukee Police Department.  She has worked squad patrol, bicycle patrol and the school squad.  She has spent the last ten years working in the Sensitive Crimes Division and specializes in interviewing child victims and investigating sexual assault cases.  Karla devotes much of her time to training peers and other professionals that work in child advocacy roles.  She also spends time soliciting donations of books, toys and funds so that every child that enters the system can receive something special to take home.  Karla is dedicated to the crime survivors she serves and was recently nominated as an America’s Most Wanted All Star for her role in convicting a serious child offender. Karla lives in Milwaukee with her life partner Debbie Ambruso and their pets; Bella, Bailey and Patches.

Patrick Gatton - MFD

I am 43 yrs old. I have been married for 10 yrs. I met my wife Kelly in 1993. I Graduated from Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, WI in 1985. After Graduation I Enlisted in the US Army, I spent 3 yrs in the Army the last 2 in C Co 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. An Airborne Pathfinder Co at Fort Rucker, AL. In 1988 I Reenlisted into the 32nd MP Company, Wisconsin National Guard. I spent 3 yrs in the National Guard. In December of 1990 our Unit was activated and sent to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm.  After this in 1992 I was hired by the Milwaukee County Sheriffs Dept. I worked for 3 yrs in the Milwaukee County Jail. I met my future wife Kelly while working in the Jail. She was also a Deputy. In 1996 I quit the Sheriffs Dept and Joined the Milwaukee Fire Dept.  I have spent the last 7 yrs as a Firefighter at Engine 6 on Brady St.

Mike Kuykendall - MPD

I have been on the force just over 7 years. I always wanted to be a police officer so that people in the gay community would have someone on the force who would listen to them if they were a victim of a crime. I am totally out on-the job and I am supported by most if not all my comrades. I work hard and try to keep my self visible in the gay community so I am there to help, assist, and enforce safety in our community. I always wanted our community to have more faith and trust in the police if something had happen to them. Other then that I am 37 I am single and have my wonderful German Sheppard tabby.

Kim Gropp - MFD

I have been a firefighter with the Milwaukee Fire Department for 18 years.  I am one of the very few lesbians out on the job.  I enjoy the challenges of being a female in a male-dominated profession, but never in my 18 years on the job have I experienced any discrimination due to my gender or my sexuality.  Prior to working for MFD, I worked for a private ambulance company (Medicare).  I am an avid motorcyclist and outdoorswoman.  I also keep active by working out and playing sports.  Very much a "people person," I enjoy the variety of people I meet both on and off the job.

Honorary Grand Marshal - Harry 'James" Marr

James Marr, 43, Passed away on March 31, 2011 after a long history with not only the Milwaukee Pride Parade But also the LGBT Community of South Eastern Wisconsin. He participated in numerous Drag show fundraisers as "Lana St. James" for such causes as ARCW and MAP fest.  In 1999 he became the owner of Triangle, a successful LGBT tavern which still succeeds to this day.  James is probably best known to the Community at large due to his half block long Pride flag which he entered into the Milwaukee Pride Parade each and every year.  His presence will be missed as we celebrate in 2011.  Rest in Peace.
