Parade Guidelines

  • Basic Entry Fee – $65

    ​Non-Profit Entry Fee: $10

    Parade line-up details are not available until 5 days before the event. Please plan accordingly.

    The parade entry fee must be paid when you submit the parade application.

    Signs and/or banners containing the names, logos, or other representations of groups or businesses that have not paid an entry fee for the parade will not be allowed in the parade. No group or business will be exempt from the entry fee(s).

    All organizations, groups, vehicles, and the like shall be considered "units" and through these rules will be referred to as such. All units will respect the rights of other units to participate in the parade.

    The parade coordinator(s) shall approve all handouts and/or giveaways on a case by case basis. These handouts/giveaways must be approved before the parade date and will not be permitted if they are presented for approval on the day of the parade. In addition, only what types, and numbers, of vehicles and people described on your application will be allowed in the staging area.

    Do not park in the line up area prior to 10 a.m. on the day of the parade. If your vehicle is parked in the staging area before this time you may be removed from the parade or have your vehicle ticketed or towed. If you have a float and need additional time for set-up, please contact president@prideparademke.org to make arrangements.

    All vehicles that are going to be in the parade must provide proof of valid insurance for that vehicle prior to being allowed entrance into the staging area. Any vehicles without proof of valid insurance will be denied entry into the parade.

  • Parade Information

    The Parade for 2024 will be taking place on Sunday, June 9th Line up for the Parade will commence at 10pm. Step off will be at 2pm SHARP. Any units not checked in by l:30pm will be placed at the back of the lineup.

    Staging

    The staging area is on 2nd Street from Lapham north to the step off point. Enter the staging area only from 2nd and Lapham. At this point you will be told where your unit will line up in the staging area. We will have people to direct you to your proper spot.

    The order of line-up is not finalized until 5 days before the parade, so no line-up information can be given out until that day.

    IF YOU NEED HELP AT ANY TIME – Parade volunteers will be wearing white shirts with the parade logo on the back – Parade OFFICIALS will be wearing black vests with “official” on the back. Any of these people can point you in the right direction. There is also a feather flag in the center of the staging area that you can go to for info.

    Parade Rules and Regulations

    All organizations, groups, vehicles, and the like shall be considered "units". All units will respect the rights of other units to take place in the parade. Handouts or giveaways must be family friendly.

    Use your judgment when representing your group. The following regulations must be complied with.

    1. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR DRUGS! Consumption of alcoholic beverages or drugs during the lineup, or actual Parade is immediate grounds for expulsion from the event.

    2. No animals without prior permission. Dogs and cats are exempted but must be on a leash.

    3. No signs, banners, groups promoting or showing profanity, sex acts or obscene material.

    4. All state and local ordinances regarding nudity will be strictly enforced. All costumes and other apparel worn in the parade must comply with the Obscenity Statutes of the State of Wisconsin and the public decency ordinances of the City of Milwaukee. No Jock Straps, G- strings, bras, or panties will be permitted to appear in the parade. No see-through clothing will be permitted, for example: any person wearing chaps will be required to have jeans or other suitable attire under such chaps to prevent public viewing of parts of the anatomy which violates Wisconsin obscenity laws. All decisions as to the propriety of attire to be worn in the parade will be made by the parade officials.

    5. It is the responsibility of the entrant to remove units that become disabled immediately. If you are unsure about your vehicle, plan for towing needs. Any fees associated with towing/repair, or tickets issued by law enforcement agencies for abandoned vehicles, shall be the responsibility of the entrant. Milwaukee Pride Parade is not responsible for any damage to any unit before, during, or after the parade.

    6. Large, motorized units are advised to have someone on both sides of the unit to guide them and ensure that no spectators are in the way.

    7. At no time shall any units endanger the safety of themselves, other units or spectators.

    8. Units agree to follow the direction of the Milwaukee Pride Parade Officials, Milwaukee Pride Parade Security, and the Milwaukee Police Department.

    9. Entrants are responsible for the set-up and clean up of their unit before and after the parade.

    10. Overhand throwing of objects IS NOT PERMITTED. Please underhand throw so as not to injure any spectators.

    11. All registered units must be in their designated line-up position and ready by 1:45 PM. Entrance to the staging area starts at 10AM. If you have a float and need more time to set up, please contact us at president@prideparademke.org so we can plan for an earlier time.

    12. Any parade unit in violation of the above rules and regulations will be ejected from the Parade.

    Not a rule, just a suggestion. If you are distributing anything there are about 15,000 plus people watching the parade. Also, you may want to have a banner for your unit, so people know who you are.

    Applications are subject to approval by the Milwaukee Pride Parade. Milwaukee Pride Parade reserves the right to reject any application it believes would be inappropriate given the nature of the event.

    We reserve the right to change and amend these and any other rules and regulations which govern the parade at any time with or without public notification.

    ANY NON-COMPLIANCE OF THE ABOVE COULD RESULT IN FUTURE APPLICATION DENIALS FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION.

    Note: All vehicles in the parade must show proof of insurance when entering the line-up area! So don't forget your insurance card!

    There are Port-A-Poties at the south end – center - and north end of the staging area. The center area also has a handicap unit. Also, there are Port-A-Poties at the end of the parade route.

    IF YOU HAVE A FLOAT - And need time to assemble on the staging area it is advisable to get your float to the staging area between 8am and 11 am so you have room to assemble. If you are coming early, please email us at president@prideparademke.org and let us know.

    We hope to make this a fun and safe parade.

  • Includes all of the above, plus: name included in all parade press releases and three (3) additional features of your organization on our Facebook and Twitter @prideparademke accounts.

Your organization’s sponsorship must be paid in full prior to being added to the website and printed materials. The cut off date for sponsors to be added to banners and other printed materials is May 10, 2024.
